Early Childhood Director Career Field

Early Childhood DirectorCareer Overview

Early childhood directors are also sometimes called daycare managers, head start supervisors, and childcare supervisors. Early childhood directors are generally employed by preschool and daycare centers where children are educated and cared for while parents are working. They are generally smaller in size then an elementary school. An early childhood director will generally be the only administrator of the childcare establishment. They may also teach and care for children when necessary. They are responsible to schedule and oversee daily educational activities, hire staff, develop staff, and ensure that the educational facility meets federal and state regulations for childcare and educating children.

Most early childhood directors need some college experience. For those working for a state or federally funded preschool or daycare program, they are generally required to have their bachelor’s degree and an early education or preschool education teaching credential.
