Fashion designers study fashion trends, create sketches of clothing and style ideas, choose materials and colors, and manage final creation of their design work. Fashion designers may specialize in one particular type of design like women, men, and children’s clothing, footwear design, or accessory design. Accessory designers create handbags, belts, scarves, hats, gloves, hosiery, and even eye wear.

Education & Licensing Requirements

Associate’s Degree in Fashion Design (2 years of college)
Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design (4 years of college)

For those who are serious about a job as a fashion designer, an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree (even better) in fashion design as generally an absolute must to getting hired.
