Educational Requirements

Associate’s Degree in Film/Video Editing (2 years of college)
College Certification in Film Editing

Trade schools, colleges, and universities offer certification programs and degree programs in film and video editing. Film editors also need strong skills in digital camera equipment and computer technology used for editing film and video as almost all editing is done on computers in today’s film industry. Many editors will start out working part-time and gain experience and a reputation before getting hired for full-time or longer term projects.
