Healthcare and Medical Services Manager Career Field

medical services managerHealth and medical services managers can also be called healthcare executives, healthcare administrators, and assistant healthcare administrators. Their main responsibilities center on managing, directing, planning, and coordinating the delivery of healthcare at medical services facilities. Health and medical service managers can supervise an entire facility or medical practice, or they may just specialize and manage one particular department. Health and medical service managers can work in a huge variety of medical facilities from nursing homes and rehabilitation centers to hospitals and surgical centers to private medical clinics.

Educational Requirements & Licensing Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration/Public Health (4 years)
Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration/Health Sciences/Public Health/Public Administration (2 years beyond bachelors)

In small medical facilities a bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare administration may be all that is required to get hired as a health and medical services manager. However, in large healthcare facilities a master’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, or a similar field is almost always required to get hired.
